Veterans Memorial

There have been a lot of wars fought since the birth of the United States, starting with the Revolutionary War which gave us our freedoms. However, when most of us think of veterans we think of the people we know who have fought in wars and then have come home. It is hard for us to imagine wars that were beyond our time, or to even remember the fallen. A veterans memorial is designed to help us remember those we may have forgotten.

Each veterans memorial could have completely different objectives. Some honor the veterans who have fought in various wars and are from certain towns. For example, Boston, MA may have a veterans memorial to honor those from Boston who have fought. Some honor veterans of certain wars, such as a veterans memorial honoring the soldiers of World War II. Overall, the concept of the veterans memorial is a nice one because it shows us that we are a society who values those who serve the country.

If you are a family member of a veteran, it is a nice touch encountering a veterans memorial. A lot of these memorials have the names of the people they wish to honor. If your family member or members are amongst these names, you could be invited to participate in the unveiling ceremony. This is a special time. When the veterans memorial gets put on display for all to see, this means that people can remember those who fought for the things we believe in as a nation.

Even people who feel a little cynical about the political situations of the day can still get emotional when they see a veterans memorial. For example, even if people do not agree with a particular war, they realize that the people who fought in the war may also not agree with it. This makes their  even more meaningful. So even those who do not agree with the war realize that if they do not honor the fallen, they are dishonoring the families and loved ones of the soldiers. Hate the war, just do not hate the soldiers who fight. If you want to remember the soldiers, you build a veterans memorial to honor them.
